Bangladeshi haleem is so hearty and delicious! It’s a stew made of tender beef chunks, creamy lentils, and grains and topped with fresh garnishes such as tangy lime and fresh cilantro
Ingredients:
- 1.5 – 2 lbs bone in beef (you can adjust the meat quantity based on your preference)
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 large onion, roughly chopped
- 3 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- Haleem mix (comes with a spice blend and dal mixture)
- Salt to taste
- 2 tsp gorom moshla
- 5 cups of water (1 cup for soaking the dal, 2 cups for cooking the beef, and 2 cups for cooking the dal)
- 2 tbsp ghee
- Cucumber, cilantro, ginger, green chilies, fried onion, and lime for garnish
Instructions:
- Soak the dal mixture in hot boiling water and set aside
- Heat oil in the instant pot using the sauté mode
- Roughly chop the onion and saute until golden brown. Add the ginger garlic paste
- Add the beef chunks to the onion mixture. Mix well with most of the haleem spice mix (reserve 2 tbsps of the spice blend for later use) and salt. Saute for 2-3 minutes.
- Add 2 cups of water and pressure cook the beef for 18 minutes
- Meanwhile, prep the garnishes. I sliced cucumber, ginger, cilantro, green chilies, and lime
- After the beef is cooked, add in the soaked dal (along with the water it was soaking in). Add 2 more cups of water and pressure cook for 12 minutes
- After the dal is cooked, switch to saute mode. Add ghee, green chilies, salt, and gorom moshla and saute for 5-10 minutes (until your desired consistency and thickness)
@mealswithaneels Bangladeshi haleem is so hearty and delicious! For me, the best part is adding the garnishes (tangy lime, fresh cilantro, and chopped chilies just amplify the flavor in a beautiful way). This instant pot version comes together in 30-35 minutes and the best part is you do not have to constantly stand in front of the stove stirring the dal/meat mixture to make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot!
